our trip so far, in photos, for economist dads

greg's picture

We've been on this crazy trip for 2 months now and it also happens to be my Dad's brithday today. So, here is a photo update on our trip with a special slant towards dads that are also economists.

hello statue, thanks for the coke
While visiting the Louvre this nice lady statue gave me some flowers. Thanks, statue!

would you like a foot massage?
But she made me give her a foot massage. Fair enough, we all know "tit for tat" is the best strategy for the prisoner's dilemma.

feed me your mail!
I've been impersonating a fair number of statues on the wall, just like all our childhood trips.

even bug made interacts with statues
I even got bug in on the act.

dogs and husbands stay outside at zara
Your patience and love for our fine dogs served me well while shopping in Spain. Dogs and husbands have to stay outside while the women do their shopping.

ballet art in san sebastian
And of course the many cultural events you took us to taught me the benefits of the occasional ballet move, like this one in San Sebastian.

bread fight!
Sometimes bug and I don't get along so well.

we're still using our brains
We are of course, still thinking.

important things in life
And keeping track of the important things in life (economist and fancy hot chocolate in Buenos Aires).

great exchange rate - pesos to dollars for 3.20!
This store in Buenos Aires was offering a "free lunch" - They would exchange Dollars for 3.20 pesos on all goods purchased in the store, a 5% premium over the exchange house next door. Of course, their products were at a 20% premium to the store a block off of the tourst strip. So the improved exchange rate wasn't so valuable.

menu cost effect - "10% inflation" right Kirchners?
The menus and signs are all designed for ease of changing prices. The Kirchners swear that inflation is only 10% but the shopkeepers investments show it must be higher.

leave your carts here (what about paying people for them?)
In Heathrow we got free carts to move our luggage. Quite a bit nicer than in Denver's airport where you have to pay for them. They just ask that you leave them in this location (note - there were no carts at the sign).

how about leave your cart in front of the elevator version 2
Of course, because the carts have no return value, people leave them wherever is most convenient to leave them and nobody collects them. Here they are piled up in a small room in front of the elevator that every visitor has to take.

how about leave your cart in front of the elevator
And yet more carts in front of the elevator. Unintended consequences bites again.

once again, you're hi-lar-i-ous!
i love see you guys in these pictures--i think my favorites are Nik "spouting off" and Greg actually perfecting the crazy square grin. classic. north america misses you both.
