Date night at the Arab bath house

A well traveled friend of mine recommended the Hamman (Arabic bath house) in Granada and billed it one her top 3 travel experiences ever. Since I was headed there, I had to check it out. What I didn’t know, was that it is a perpetual date night at the Hamman, and my only companion was a Foreign Policy magazine that is slightly difficult to read with wet hands by candlelight. On the whole, the bath house experience was amazing, save the price (29 Euro with 8 minute massage) and the tourist I’m-traveling-the-world-with-my-lover vibe that’s hard to miss, especially if you are soloing because your man heard the word “Arab bath house” and ran for the hills. Why it was great: the experience was beautiful and relaxing. True to form with Arabic bath houses, there were three different pools to choose from and move between: cold (seriously hypothermic, people. I could have sipped myself out of a glass of ice water I was sitting in), lukewarm in a large pool with starry skylights (which were part of the original bath house in the Alhambra), and 3 candlelit hot pools, which reminded me most of the hot springs I’m used to in the great state of Colorado. I’m definitely glad I went, despite being the only single in the group.
