The other day we rode the train from Valencia to San Sebastian. It was kind of cool to get the experience, but there were a few things that didn't go quite as planned:

Give the wrong price and then don't update the person until you've swiped their card Yep - the ticket agent told us that it would be "about 50 euros" for our train ride. Sounds great, it was an overnighter in first class so we figured we'd save on the hotel expense for the night. She handed the receipt to sign and it was $154. Ok. Even if she was talking about $50 per person $154 is still not twice that.
Have a mullet Ok, this is actually more in the ways to make it awesome since they were so funny, but seriously, everyone had mullets. Even the women. Crazy. The drugged-out-stinky-guy across the bed from me had a mullet mohawk.
Turn off your cellphone. Kind of a no brainer, but if you are going to sleep at least put that thing on vibrate and not on the most annoying ring tone ever.
Smoke in the no smoking car. Not even the conductor cared about this one, but tons of people were smoking in our car. I'm allergic to smoke and plus I don't like cancer. So, smoke somewhere else, if you could.
Forget to shower, take drugs, and push your legs into someone else's feet. Ok, we got on the train and found our seats. This was kind of exciting, but it worked fine. The trip from Valencia to Tarragona went fine. We saw some country side, I didn't have any stress of driving (which wasn't that stressful anyway, but still, it was relaxing). The next section of the trip was from Tarragona to San Sebatian on a separate train. We got into our "First Class" car and found our berth which had 6 seats. The seats could be adjusted to be flat and if you put all the seats into the flat mode then it was basically 3 beds. But we were 6 people in there, so really it was 3 half beds. Not the most comfortable, but not horrible. Well, the dudes across from us hadn't showered in weeks, popped some drugs, passed out, and then proceeded to kick their legs into our space. WTF?
I think those would be the top 5 ways to ruin any train ride - not just the spanish ones.
True, but, train doesn't rhyme with "anywhere" it does rhyme with "Spain".
Dude, I have been sitting here for an hour reading about your trips! Awesome! I am definitely jealous!! This one really cracked me up, as did the "Ugly American's" comment about your perfect english!!
Glad you are having a good time and thanks for putting me on the correspondence list!!!
