I went out running yesterday, and I got attacked by two street dogs. I had to go to the emergency room and today I went in to get the first rabies shot. The bites aren’t really that bad, it was mostly just upsetting and I even cried right there on the street. That’s right, this icy heart was melted by two mad Mexican street dogs. I guess they're hungry and they wanted my carne.
A nice senora in the street put lime juice on the wounds and squeezed them really hard to squeeze the saliva out of them. My mom told me you aren’t supposed to squeeze them but hell. Everyone else was just staring at me when the dogs were attacking me, thank got they just ran away after biting me. And that’s to say nothing of the Juchitan “emergency room.” They have absolutely no resources. They had to cut little pieces of tape to construct bandages, they were sweeping the filthiest floor as I sat there amongst the sick and wounded. The upside is that I only had to pay US$2.75.
I also am going to look into working with the stat social worker there, as I am not doing anything productive at the organization where I am now… I am working on maybe staying here a little less time than I had anticipated, it is a matter of rearranging my research stuff.
