Lonely Planet Central America guide

I'm usually a big fan of LP guides on trips past, but seriously every traveler wandering around the streets of Copan, Honduras and Antigua, Guatemala, whether they were Australian, European, or American, were all referring to their green LP Central American guide.  It did have good info, but every traveler had the same advice and ended up going to the same places...

So True! In Mexico the hotels listed in the LP were crawling with gringos (whom, for some reason, I find indescribably annoying when I am in a foreign country, wanting to feel I am not your average annoying backpacker and that I am making my own way.)
After the first night in the LP recommended hostel I also found a much cheaper and nicer hotel that was not so touristy. Of course I still love them for the history and information on sights to see, but I guess their hotel and resto info should be taken with a grain of salt.
